MADISON, WI (WSAU)   The first test of divided government takes place Tuesday in Madison. Democrat Governor Tony Evers will meet with the GOP caucus of the state legislature. Republicans hold majorities in both the state senate and assembly.

Assembly Republicans have sent Evers a letter on areas where both parties could work together. The list includes transportation funding, K-12 school funding, income tax cuts, and guaranteeing health coverage for preexisting conditions.

A bill that would guarantee insurance coverage for preexisting conditions has bipartisan support, but may not have enough votes in the state senate.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos had proposed the meeting before Evers was sworn in.

Vos has also suggested the Republicans may pass their own version of the state budget. Vos, noting the Evers was elected on overwhelming support from Milwaukee and Dane counties, has suggested that Republicans in the legislature would block ideas that do not have statewide support.
