Finally some pop in practice

Packers put the pads on

It's an unmistakable sound, the crack of the pads, that tells you it really is an NFL training camp.

(Offensive and defensive linemen engage in run blocking drill)

The Green Bay Packers wrapped up the first four days of camp by donning shoulder pads on Saturday and full gear on Sunday.  Head Coach Matt LaFleur cut short Saturday's workout by about 10 minutes and Sunday's practice lasted just 1:50 in sunny, 85 degree heat.

Eight players did not suit up, the only new name on the list was offensive tackle Jason Spriggs.  After getting most of the starting snaps Saturday when veteran Bryan Bulaga was given a day off for rest, Spriggs didn't go with a trapezius pull.   Also missing practice were Mason Crosby, Darnell Savage, Jamal Williams, Josh Jackson, Kendall Donnerson, Greg Roberts and Fadal Brown.

With the pads finally on, there was more of an emphasis on the running game.   One of the first periods was just the offensive and defensive line working on run blocking and combination blocks.   In team periods, several backs found seams.   That's not to say the passing game was devoid of plays.   Davante Adams seems to get targeted on the first snap Aaron Rodgers is on the field nearly every single time, with good reason, he's constantly getting open.

Jake Kumerow made a fine sideline catch downfield today.

I also noticed fullback Danny Vitale again.   He made a big grab on a wheel route and later rooted out a linebacker with textbook lead block on a running play.

After practice, LaFLeur met reporters to talk about finally getting the pads on and getting the work done in timely fashion.

There's was another roster move made late Saturday with offensive lineman Larry Williams getting waived to make room for running back Darrin Hall.    Hall was claimed off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals.  Hall was briefly with the Cleveland Browns after going undrafted the spring.  At the University of Pittsburgh last year, Hall gained 1144 yards and averaged a robust 7.48 yards carry with 10 touchdowns.   He must have had a little trouble getting travel arrangements because he wasn't on the practice field Sunday.   He should be in uniform for the next public camp practice on Tuesday.
