Staind released "Mudshovel" as the third single off their 1999 studio album Dysfunction, but a heavier version of the song was included on their debut album Tormented.
The radio version of the song took the screaming down a notch and beefed up production, palm muted guitar and double bass drums in the chorus.
The song reached #10 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and #14 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks charts.
The song is about someone being wronged in a relationship and the video depicts a man walking in on his girlfriend or wife cheating on him. He then gets back at her by cheating on her in the end.
