TOWN OF FREMONT, WI (WSAU-WDLB) -- One child is dead after the buggy they were riding in was involved in a crash on Highway “H” west of Hi Line Ave in the Town of Fremont.

WDLB is reporting the Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a call of the crash shortly before nine a-m Wednesday. Initial investigation indicates that a car being driven by a 17-year-old girl was going east on “H” behind another vehicle. As she was driving she saw the vehicle ahead of her swerve to the left and then saw a horse drawn buggy also traveling east along the side of the road. She hit the buggy with the front right corner of her car.

The buggy had four passengers, all children, ages 13, 10, 8 and 6. All the children were ejected from the buggy after the crash. The buggy came to rest in the south ditch. The eight-year-old died as a result of the incident. The 10 and 6-year-olds received incapacitating injuries and the 13-year-old received minor injuries.

The 17-year-old driver of the car is from the Neillsville area and was wearing her seatbelt.

The Chili Area First Responders and Fire Department responded to the scene with the Marshfield Fire Department Ambulance, Life Link helicopter, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.

This is the 6th traffic fatality in Clark County for 2018.

There was no indication whether the teen driver was issued any citations as a result of the crash.
