CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (MetroSource-WSAU) The case of the ten-year-old girl who was arrested in connection with the death of an infant in Chippewa County is moving to a higher authority. Officials with the county district attorney's office say the case is being forwarded to the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

The girl is accused of causing injuries to a six-month-old that resulted in the baby’s death after it hit its head on a stool and started crying back in October. A criminal complaint said the girl then stomped on the child’s head to stop the crying. The police report said doctors alerted law enforcement that the injuries appeared to be intentional.

The 10-year-old confessed to her involvement. She had been removed from her parents’ home a month before the incident. What led to that decision is not clear.

She was supposed to appear in court Tuesday, but the date was rescheduled. Under state law the case was initially sent to adult court, where bond was set at $50,000. The suspect’s name has not been released because of her age.
