DEWHURST TOWNSHIP, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -- A La Crosse man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Clark County from Friday night. It happened around 5pm at the intersection of Highway 95 and County Road J in Dewhurst Township.

The victim was a 54-year-old man whose name has not been released.

A press release from the Clark County Sheriff's Department says the man was driving a Jeep northbound along County Road J and stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 95. The Jeep then pulled out in front of a milk truck being driven by 22-year-old Brandon Doebbert.

“The milk truck attempted to avoid the Jeep but struck its passenger side,” the release said. "The milk truck hit a road sign before stopping in a ditch, while the Jeep landed on its roof as a result of the impact."

The 54-year-old Jeep driver was pronounced dead at the scene. "Failure to yield at a stop sign” is listed as the cause of the accident.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Department, the Coroner’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol are continuing their investigation.

It is the fifth fatal crash in Clark County this year.
