MERRILL, WI (WSAU) -- The first snowfall of the season has come and gone, and that means it's time to practice those winter driving skills.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's office reports over a dozen incidents involving vehicles sliding off the roadway or crashing were reported beginning Friday morning, leading to at least one hospitalization.

Deputies say the calls started at about 5:30 Friday, with the worst incidents being reported on Highway 51 going south. A truck pulling a trailer left the roadway and overturned, which slowed traffic for several hours.

Additionally, an 18-year-old South Milwaukee man was taken to Aspirus Wausau for undisclosed injuries when his vehicle crashed in the Town of Birch.

In addition to the high number of vehicle crashes, there were also 25 car-versus-deer crashes in Lincoln County last week, up significantly.
