Former Wausau daycare provider enters plea to child abuse charges

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- A Wausau babysitter accused of child abuse while operating an unlicensed daycare facility entered a plea in Marathon County court today to two felony count of child abuse.

Merisa Sell entered a not guilty plea to both counts Monday and remains free on a $100,000 signature bond after paying the first $10,000 in cash.

Charges against her stem from an August incident in which a 16-month-old girl fell from a high chair when in Sell's care. She told first responders the girl fell on her bottom, but doctors examining the child found the injuries were not consistent with the story.

Conditions of her bond include having no contact with the victims or their families and having no employment at any child care facility. She must also refrain from having contact with any children under the age of 18 beside her own and may not operate a daycare.

If convicted Sell faces up to 80 years in prison.
