Police chase suspect in court Tuesday

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- A man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase from Weston to Schofield appeared in Marathon County court on Tuesday after having his initial appearance was rescheduled from Monday.

Maxwell Philavanh, 30, is accused of speeding off after Everest Metro Police Officers tried to pull him over in the Village of Weston Saturday night for an equipment issue. The chase went more than 4 miles to Schofield where officers deployed spike strips and his vehicle crashed near the Wausau Country Club.

Philavanh then took off and was arrested near a gas station along Business 51.

Charges against him include Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Operating With a Suspended License, and two counts of Bail Jumping.

If found guilty the Schofield man could face up to ten years in prison and over $40,000 in fines.
