Merrill Man Sentenced to 25 Years For Father's Death

MERRILL, WI (WSAU) -- A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2016 death of his father.

Tyler Monroe of Merrill pleaded guilty to a felony charge of 2nd-Degree Intentional Homicide back in June. At that time he also agreed to the terms of a plea deal to avoid a jury trial and drop several charges.

Monroe was arrested back in January of 2016. He fled his father's apartment on January 12th, 2016 when a friend discovered Kevin Monroe's body in his bedroom. Monroe was arrested the next day and taken into custody.

Monroe was sentenced Thursday afternoon to 25 years in a state prison along with 20 years of extended supervision. He is credited with 1,051 days already spent in custody since January 13th, 2016.
