WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) An armed robbery suspect was charged in Marathon County court on Monday. Herbert Mohammad Johnson Jr, age 20, of Rothschild is accused of robbing a man in a Wausau apartment at gunpoint last Thursday.
A criminal complaint says Johnson broke into the apartment on Stewart Avenue, pointed a handgun at a man inside, and stole $400 from his wallet. He’s charged with armed robbery, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, being a felon in possession of a handgun, and possession of marijuana. Johnson was wanted by his parole officer for a series of violations at the time of the break-in. He was awaiting sentencing in an unrelated child abuse and intimidation case.
A woman who lived at the apartment called 911 and told police that Johnson forced his way in and robbed a man who was staying there. He fled on foot.
Johnson was caught a day later during a traffic stop on 9th Avenue. He tried to dispose of a handgun and a bag of marijuana, and was arrested after a brief foot chase. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Caitlinn Rosenberg, is facing charges of aiding a felon and obstructing an officer.
