MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) -- For several months, city officials in Marshfield have been discussing the condition and size of the city's current Police Station, and whether to update the existing facility or to build a completely new one.
Now, according to director of public works Dan Knoeck, a study to determine whether the station should be relocated to a totally new location, or stay where it is, is moving forward following a vote by the city's Board of Public Works earlier this week.
"Back in September we talked about the next steps in the Police Station facility condition and space needs assessment," Knoeck said. "And there was interest at that time in evaluating possible other sites to see if relocating the Police Station is a viable option."
The site evaluation study would look at up to a half-dozen different locations including the current location, and then rate them based on a matrix of selection criteria.
Knoeck explained that, "They will look at both the current site and other potential sites to see if indeed there's a better site out there. Kind of put some parameters about what we're looking for in a police station site."
If the city's Common Council gives final approval to the study later this month, a budget transfer of around $10,000 from the 'police station emergency generator project' to the 'space needs assessment project' would pay for the study.
'Five Bugles Design' of Minneapolis would have that site assessment study completed by January of next year.
