WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) -- Volunteers are needed for the upcoming Day of Caring from the United Way of South Wood and Adams Counties.

The Day of Caring scheduled for November 3rd is an event where volunteers rake yards of individuals that are unable to do so. With 77 houses on the list for this year's event and only half the amount of volunteers needed currently signed up, the United Way is hopeful for more volunteers. Volunteer Center Director Angela Loucks explains the benefits of pre-registering to volunteer for the event along with getting a free t-shirt. "The reason for that is to guarantee you get the t-shirt in your size. It also gives us an idea of how many more volunteers we need to recruit. And then also it helps us gauge how much breakfast we need to make because we will be making a free breakfast for everybody as well."

You can volunteer either as an individual or in groups. Loucks shares recommendations for individuals that will be volunteering that day. "We encourage everyone to bring their own rakes, their own transportation. And to dress appropriately for the weather."

For groups volunteering there are some additional recommendations that Loucks provides. "Find out how many people in your group is under the age of 18. Because we do need release forms signed by a parent or guardian for liability. And we also recommend that everybody just communicate a lot with their group. Make sure that they're meeting someplace at the Grand Rapids Lions Club, at a certain time, at a certain location. That they make sure everyone is there before going in because it gets a little bit tight and chaotic on the day of our event."

Last year the Day of Caring event broke records with 430 volunteers. Loucks is hopeful this year's event will bring in even more volunteers. As the event has added additional sponsors, the hope is to grow the event for 2018.

Those interested in registering can do so until October 31st at the Center's website, www.uwswac.org Clicking the Day of Caring banner on the website takes you to a page with more information including a link to pre-register.
