WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- Extra money will be coming out of Wausau taxpayers pockets for private school expenses.
On Monday evening the Wausau School Board approved their final version of the 2018-2019 school budget with a new addition from the state. The state of Wisconsin approved a private school voucher program back in 2013, that grew substantially for the 2018-2019 school year.
The aid deductions from the voucher program will cost Wausau district taxpayers a total of around 1.9 million dollars. For each individual taxpayer, the cost will be $26 for every $100,000 on their home going to these voucher programs to subsidize private schools.
Other components of the final budget include a mill rate at an even 11, that saves taxpayers $12 for every $100,000 of property value. $600,000 has also been saved by the district through defeasement costs by paying off some debts early.
