STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- A Wausau woman is facing embezzlement charges to the tune of almost $500,000.

Kristin Lapree, aged 50 faces felony charges for embezzling funds from her former employer Rettler Corp. The Stevens Point-based landscape design company hired Lapree in early 2012 as the business manager.

In December of 2012, Lapree started siphoning off money from the company for her own personal use. Lapree used company money to fund credit cards, furniture, rent, travel, clothing, groceries, and other expenses. She was able to do so by using the owner's electronic signature to sign checks.

Lapree was fired on August 6th after Rettler officials confronted Lapree for two identical checks clearing the business account. A search warrant was issued for Lapree on October 9th, where she was arrested.

Lapree faces felony charges of theft in a business setting, forgery, fraudulent writings by a corporate officer, and misappropriate of identification information to obtain money. She is due in court for an initial appearance on Monday.
