RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -- Ellen Tran was found guilty of first degree reckless homicide in the death of her stepson.

A jury found the 30-year-old guilty after about two hours of deliberation Thursday, according to WAOW TV. Charges stem from a 2017 incident in which Avery Edwards died after suffering injuries to the head. Tran's defense team said the boy slipped while in the shower, prosecutors said the injuries were due to blunt-force trauma.

Thurday's verdict wraps up a five-day trial that began last Friday when the jury was seated. Arguments in the case have been heard since Monday.

Edward's father Trung also faces charges of child abuse, neglect, and failing to prevent bodily harm. His case is set to be picked up later this year following the completion of Ellen's case.

Ellen Tran now faces a sentence of up to 60 years. A sentencing date has not been set.

Trung and Ellen have since divorced.
