WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – There was a vigil for the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting victims at Mt. Sinai Congregation in Wausau on Sunday. The vigil opened with a prayer from Rabbi Edward Boraz. Those who attended held candles and joined together in song.
“The slaughter now becomes part of a legacy that is beyond words, and there is a profound emptiness,” said Rabbi Boraz referring to other mass shooting in the United States.
Leaders from various faiths also spoke at the event, showing solidarity with the Jewish community. Wausau Mayor Robert Mielke and Congressman Sean Duffy were also in attendance and spoke to the crowd. “I too am heartened that we have so many different faiths here standing together against this evil and this violence,” Congressman Duffy said.
Rabbi Boraz read the names of the 11 killed on Saturday. “At this sacred moment we recall the names, names that we know will endure beyond the grave and will serve as an inspiration for generations to follow,” he said.
