MADISON, WI (WSAU) -- Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is losing his job in early January, but according to a report from Bloomberg News, he may not be collecting unemployment very long.

In a story published Saturday morning, Walker is named as one of just over a half-dozen candidates to take over as President Donald Trump's Interior Secretary when Ryan Zinke leaves the post at year's end.

Zinke is stepping down amid several ethics questions, including investigations into potential conflicts of interest.

Walker is named as a candidate in the story alongside Idaho Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter, Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, Washington Senator Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and former Wyoming Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis.

Walker briefly ran against Trump during the 2016 Presidental campaign. After he dropped out Walker would go on to endorse Ted Cruz. During his campaign stop in Mosinee in October Trump would call Walker a formidable opponent during that campaign season and gave Walker credit for helping to get the Foxconn deal done in Racine County.

Walker's dip into the Presidential waters lasted from mid-July 2015 to late September 2015 after his polling numbers dipped to below one percent favorability.

The Secretary of the Interior position is one that is typically held by a politician from a western state who has experience navigating federal lands.
