MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) -- Believe it or not, Christmas is just weeks away, and that means one of the first holiday parades of the season hits the streets of downtown Marshfield on Thursday, and Main Street Marshfield executive director Kaelie Gomez says the downtown is being transformed into a dazzling display of lights for its 19th year.
"This Thursday we have our annual Holiday Parade, featuring businesses and community organizations coming together to light up the downtown," Gomez says. "It really is a parade of lights! Every single float is 'designed to delight a child's eyes.' So, not only are our floats lit up, but our downtown businesses light up their store fronts for the holiday window displays, and you're just going to see a lot of good family fun that night."
The parade starts at 6:30 at the corner of Second Street and Central Avenue, and runs south down Central Avenue. "People are going to see the floats come down Central Avenue, and go all the way down to 9th Street on Central," Gomez says.
And the fun continues with a post-parade party at the Holiday Inn, including Santa's first appearance of the year. "And afterward you can meet Santa and the parade marshals at the Holiday Inn, and join us for free cookies and hot chocolate, and activities for children."
This year's parade marshals are city administrator Steve Barg and his wife Denise.
Because of the Holiday Parade you'll need to watch for road closures in the staging area as well as on Central Avenue starting at around 5:30 today.
