STANLEY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) - A Stanley man is being held on $15,000 bond for drunk driving and leading police on a high speed chase. Clark County sheriff deputies say they clocked Dale Kortesmaki at 110 mph on December 23.
They say he continued to reach speeds of nearly 100 mph even after spike strips destroyed one of his tires. His car eventually drove into the ditch and was boxed in.
Deputies said he resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. While getting out of the squad car, he head-butted an officer and a spit-mask was needed. He shouted obscenities at the hospital and it took six people to get him into handcuffs.
An empty bottle of whiskey was found in the car.
Kortesmaki is charged with fleeing from officers, OWI and battery to law enforcement. His initial court appearance is in February.
