Short Sunday and here comes Houston

Packers have light workout before camp welcomes Texans

With Family Night in the rear view mirror and getting a day off Saturday, the Green Bay Packers resumed training camp on Sunday but held a light workout in advance of the Houston Texans arriving for a pair of joint practices leading up to their Preseason opener Thursday night back at Lambeau Field.

(The defensive line drills Sunday)

Matt LaFleur had the team work in shorts with shoulder pads and helmets.   The 78 minute practice was by design, "I wanted a crisp, clean workout," he said.

Kevin King was scratched after suffering a hamstring injury Friday night and Bryan Bulaga was given a planned day of rest.

Tony Brown who had a pick six on Family Night and Ka"Dar Hollman each got some reps with the starting defense in King's place.  Second year tackle Alex Light again worked at right tackle with the ones.

Still out were Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams in the backfield, Josh Jackson, Kendall Donnerson, Greg Roberts, Jason Spriggs and Fadal Brown.

Mason Crosby finally came off the non-football injury list.  He arrived at camp with a tight right calf muscle and cautiously worked through it, missing the first week and a half.     I caught up with Mason after practice:

The stage is now set for the joint sessions with Houston. It's the first time since 2005 the Green Bay Packers will practice against another NFL team.   In Mike Sherman's final year as Head Coach, he had the Buffalo Bills come to Green Bay.

LaFleur says he had several conversations with Houston Head Coach Bill O'Brien to work out practice particulars.   He said teams will work on fundamentals and group drills on their own (the Packers will stay on Nitschke Field, the Texans on Hinkle Field), before working together.
There will be 11 on 11 periods, 7 on 7 and some individual offensive line/defensive line sessions.

LaFleur joked there will be no one on one receiver versus defensive back drills because that's when tempers seem to flare up the fastest and he doesn't want any scuffles.

Gonna be an interesting couple of days.
