WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) -- The City of Wisconsin Rapids has approved a new city clerk.
During a special meeting of the Common Council on Tuesday, Jennifer Gossick was approved to serve in the position through the 2019 spring elections. Mayor Zach Vruwink says she brings a wealth of elections and customer service experience to the position. "She has worked for a number of years as an elections worker," he said. Vruwink went on to add that the Clerk's position can often time be the first person someone sees when stopping by City Hall. "When people call City Hall or visit for various issues, they often times stop by the Clerk's Office first, [and she] has deep customer service experience."
He says that makes her more than qualified to take over the position that was vacated by Paul Przybelski when he resigned on August 31st due to a change in residency. While that left the city without a Clerk to oversee the 2018 mid-term election, Vruwink says things still went smoothly after the city sought outside help.
"We contracted for some elections support, so we were not without elections administration. The Clerk's office also has some support staff and our elections inspectors ran the polling places as they do every election day," he said.
Gossick's appointment to the position runs through the Spring election on April 2nd, 2019. During Tuesday's meeting, the council also approved a special election for the position to be held that date due to the timing of Przybelski's resignation following his recent re-election to the position.
Vruink says he expects Gossick to run for the position full-time. Adding that anyone else interested in being on the April 2019 ballot for the job will so be able to file the paperwork to run.
Anyone over the age of 18 who lives in Wisconsin Rapids can run for the position.
