WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- Officials with the Salvation Army in Wausau could use your help to make sure they reach their 2018 Red Kettle campaign fundraising goal.

Lieutenant Donna Thammavongsa says their campaign goal this year is $170,000, but with about 13 days to go in the bell ringing season, they have yet to cross the halfway point.

"Everything in our budget depends on what comes into the kettle campaign," said Thammavongsa. That means things like rent or utility assistance, noon meals at the facility, or food pantry services.

She figures they need to raise about $85-$90 thousand in the next 13 days to match the goal set back in November, adding that there are ways for you to help outside of giving what you can at the kettles including signing up to ring bells for an hour or two.

"Even if they can do one 2-hour shift that would be so helpful. Right now, we have kettles that aren't being manned, that means we aren't getting any income coming in." Thammavongsa says those wishing to ring bells can either call the Salvation Army office or signup online at www.sawausau.org.

Any businesses that wish to offer matching funds for money raised in a single day can also reach out. Thammavongsa says they have one group down to match up to $3,000 in donations on the final day of the bell ringing campaign. Anyone else who might be willing to help should contact the Salvation Army.

"Any bit helps," she added.
