90s at 9 Deftones' Biggest Hit

Chino Moreno created his own summer which inspired the song.

"My Own Summer (Shove It)" was Deftones' first charting single and the first single released from the Around The Fur album in 1997. It is one of the few Deftones songs that got MTV and radio play.

According to thedeftones.com,  Chino Moreno wrote this song in Seattle during the hot summer of 1994. Trapped inside of his room by the heat and sun, he boarded up his windows with aluminum foil and wished for "An apocalyptic-type thing" where all of the people on the streets would disappear and the sun would go away. He called this dream world "his own summer," which is where the song title comes from.

To make the video Moreno paid for the director to go to Australia to collect footage. The sharks were all mechanical except at the very end they used CGI.
