We sometimes look back on certain years and go, "Yikes, 20XX was a rough year!". Well that's how I feel about 2008 as a whole. The same could be said for the front man of Shinedown, Brent Smith, when he wrote this song. Second Chance is about the difficulty Brent had with his parents, and having to leave them to pursue what made him happy. He didn't want to just settle like everybody else did. He wanted to go out and get something. Saying goodbye is never easy, but sometimes goodbye is a second chance!
