UNDATED (WSAU) Governor-elect Tony Evers is announcing a statewide listening tour for the new state budget. He’ll be making a stop in Wausau on Wednesday. It will be from noon to 1:30pm at the Labor Temple on Third Avenue. Those who wish to speak at the event must register in advance.
Evers will hold similar events Tuesday in Green Bay and next Tuesday and Wednesday at La Crosse and Milwaukee.
Through this process, we are going to hear directly from the people and build a budget that reflects the values and priorities of the citizens of Wisconsin," Evers said in a written statement.
During the campaign Evers proposed $340-million in tax relief for middle-income families, to be paid for by cuts to agricultural subsidies and manufacturing credits. Evers says his plan would cut state taxes for individuals earning less than $100,000 a year.
Evers also said he will restore two-thirds state funding for schools, which would lead to a funding increase of close to $1.4-billion.
The budget will be an early test of whether Evers can work with the GOP controlled legislature. The governor-elect has already clashed with lawmakers over a series of lame-duck bills that limit his power once he takes office in January.
