WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- At least a dozen Marathon County Towns scheduled to receive new addresses as part of the county's Uniform Addressing program will have to wait until next year.

County planning and zoning officials announced on Friday that the project will pause once the ground is frozen and crews can no longer pound posts in the ground. That will leave eight northwestern towns from Bern and Johnson eat to Stettin and Berlin to receive the updated addresses next year. Additionally, the western teir of towns from Holton to Spencer were added to the list.

Those residents who will not be getting new addresses under the system will continue to use their current address through the winter.

The procedure for getting their new address will not change, as crews plan to pick up the work once the ground thaws in 2019. Residents will receive an official change of address notice stating what their new address will be, and once crews have placed the new sign in their driveway they can begin using it.

Additionally, election officials have been working with county planning and zoning to make sure poll workers have a cross-reference guide available for residents that haven't changed their address on their ID to ensure they will get a ballot during Tuesday's election.

An unexpected April blizzard caused the program to start almost a month later than previously planned. So far crews have changed over 15,000 addresses in 29 Towns. Addresses are currently being changed in the Towns of Cleveland and Day. Wein, Frankfort, Eau Pleine, and McMillan are up next.

Updates on the project can be found at www.mymarathoncountyaddress.org and at public libraries across the county.
