BARRON, WI (WSAU) -- Hormel Foods has announced that their portion of the reward for information leading to the return of 13-year-old Jayme Closs will be donated to her.
Hormel, which owns the Jennie-O Turkey brand, announced they would double the reward offered by the FBI back in October in the weeks after Jayme was taken from her home after her parents were shot. Since Jayme escape on her own, many have felt the money should go to her.
Denise and Jim Closs both worked at the Jennie-O Turkey Store in Barron. Executives doubled the reward as a way to honor their former employees and as a show of support for Jayme's safe return.
Jennie-O Store President Steve Lykken said it's his hope that the money will be used to establish a trust fund to be used for Jayme's needs, both now and in the future.
The FBI field office in Milwaukee has remained silent on what they will do with the portion of the reward money they offered. The Town of Gordon neighbors who helped her once she escaped the home of Jake Patterson have said they won't accept the money, and feel that it should also be donated to Jayme for saving herself.
