WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- The Wausau Finance Committee held a special meeting Monday evening to approve the purchase of a new ambulance for the city's Fire Rescue fleet.

Finance Committee Chair and Council President Lisa Rasmussen says the purchase is part of a 2017 agreement for several new vehicles that the city made with Road Rescue. "They were willing to come forward with the terms of their 2017 agreement with us with just a small market adjustment for parts and materials."

She adds that ambulances are something the city is constantly looking at upgrading due to the wear and tear they go through on a regular basis. "They are running constantly, so periodically they get replaced as part of our motor pool cyclical replacements."

The ambulance purchase was the only item on Monday's agenda due to time constraints because the purchase needed to be approved before year's end.

Once the purchase is complete the new ambulance will need to be outfitted before it goes into service.

The measure does not need full council approval since it was made through a bid process. The final price tag for the vehicle was $243,059.
