WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -- A volunteer rescue group will remain funded by Wood County until the end of the year.

On Tuesday the Wood County board unanimously voted to continue running the rescue volunteer group. The group was originally discontinued in late November by Wood County Sheriff Tom Reichert due to budget issues. The backlash from residents about the discontinuation led to the group being reinstated a few days later.

The group is only being kept until the end of the year by the county. Wood County Sheriff's Rescue Group President Dave Westfall told WAOW-TV after the meeting, "The fight is not over. We've gotta keep pushing forward, moving forward with everything we do, keep doing us. And stay positive with everything. Thanks to the county board members that did vote yes and to push this resolution through."

The rescue group is currently not apart of the 2019 budget. But any further decisions on the rescue group past this year will have to be made by the new county sheriff as Sheriff Reichert is retiring at the end of the year.
