STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -- Carl D's Ice Cream Parlor in Stevens Point will continue a new Christmas tradition this year.

The shop will be open Tuesday, Christmas Day, from 2-6 PM serving free peppermint-vanilla twist ice cream cones to residents.

In exchange for the free treat, guests will be encouraged to make a donation to the Portage County Red Kettle Campaign to benefit the Salvation Army. Brant Bergeron says it's your last chance to help the cause.

"Technically, the campaign has ended. But Carl and his generosity will be giving away the ice cream cones and people will have a chance to contribute one last time on December 25th."

Bergeron says it's truly a free will donation, there's no recommended contribution in exchange for the ice cream. "Give as much as you can," he adds.

Last year the event brought in a couple hundred dollars in donations to the Red Kettle campaign. Bergeron says it's hard to say how many cones were distributed, but it's clear that people are making the event a part of their Christmas after the gifts have been opened.
